Emma Watson has definitely become an actress to keep an eye out for. She’s taking on very strong roles. And in film, we’re used to seeing a man risk it all in order to save his girlfriend, wife, etc., but it’s much more rare to find a film where a woman is doing something of the sort.

Watson stars alongside Daniel Brühl in “Colonia,” about Lena and Daniel, a young couple who become unintentionally involved in the Chilean coup of 1973. When Daniel is taken, Lena takes it upon herself to save him and winds up tracking him to the sealed off area of Colonia Dignidad, a place where no one returns from. The film is based on a true story.

It’s refreshing to see Watson take on a significant role, especially one that is very take-charge. She and Brühl seem to have good chemistry and the trailer, while not giving away much, is intense.

The film also stars Michael Nyqvist. “Colonia” is directed and co-written by Academy Award winning short filmmaker Florian Gallenberger.

“Colonia” premiered at the 2015 Toronto International Film Festival and will hit local theaters April 15.
