Unexpected was certainly… well, unexpected. Out of all of the films I saw at the Sundance Film Festival this year, this film, which showcases Cobie Smulders in a tremendously heartfelt role, was surprisingly genuine. It could have gone wrong in so many ways, but director Kris Swanberg never lets it stray from the very human stories at the center. It helps that Smulders and Gail Bean have great onscreen camaraderie. You can read my full review of the film here.

Check out the first trailer below! Unexpected is set for a summer release on July 24.

Synopsis: An inner-city high school teacher discovers she is pregnant at the same time as one of her most promising students and the two develop an unlikely friendship while struggling to navigate their unexpected pregnancies.
