Channing Tatum is no stranger to remakes, having starred in the “21 Jump Street” reboot. Now, he’s replacing his holster for a mermaid’s… uh, merman’s tale. Yeah, the “Splash” remake, based on the 1984 film, will be adding its own twist.

Tatum will be playing Darryl Hannah’s character, while Jillian Bells will be playing Tom Hanks’ character from the original film, who is rescued by Hannah as a young boy and then reunited with the mermaid twenty years later. This is certainly an… intriguing change. And if played for comedy, because imagining Tatum as a mermaid is bringing up chuckle-worthy images, then it has the potential to be decent.

Tatum and Bell were previously seen together in “22 Jump Street.” The film, which is being written by Marja-Lewis Ryan, has no director or release date as of yet.
