It seems like the comic book movie craze is never-ending, and for most of us, that’s a pretty good thing. For one, we can always rely on having a decent action film with a relatively good story to liven up our year. Sure, superhero films can be hit or miss, but for the most part, they’re pretty hit.

And after having Gambit introduced to us in X-Men Origins: Wolverine and not being used to his full capabilities, the well-beloved X-Man is getting his own film and will star Channing Tatum in the title role. And while the film was at a relative standstill production-wise, Fox has now given it a release date: October 7, 2016.

Gambit is going up against two other films being released that same day, Ben Affleck’s Live by Night and Universal’s Monster High, but that probably won’t deter from its success at all. Fans have been waiting for this film for awhile and now that everything seems to be moving, it’s all the more exciting.

No plot details have been released and outside of Tatum, no other cast has been revealed. But the more interesting question is whether or not the film will tie in to X-Men: Apocalypse, which is set for a May 27, 2016 release, months prior to Gambit. That would be interesting indeed. Until then, just delight in the possibility of seeing more X-Men branch out and into their own films.
