Leonardo DiCaprio is headed into the Young Adult, post-apocalyptic-novel-adaptation world. DiCaprio, coming off his win at the Screen Actors Guild Awards for best actor in “The Revenant,” is set to produce the adaptation of Kayla Olson’s novel, “The Sandcastle Empire,” with his partner Jennifer Davisson at Appian Way Productions.
It sounds surprising because DiCaprio isn’t usually one to dip his feet into the ever-growing YA film genre, but Olson’s book involves a lot of climate change and other environmental themes, which the actor is heavily involved in outside of acting.
“The Sandcastle Empire” is set in 2049, a radical group called the Wolfpack takes control of the government after excessive climate change, that includes excessive flooding and overpopulation, pushes Earth and its residents to the brink. It sounds fascinating enough and will be on my “to read” radar this year.
