Matthew McConaughey is Newton Knight, a former Confederate soldier and poor farmer from Mississippi, who becomes a rebel and leader against the states for which he fought in civil war drama “Free State of Jones.” The film is based on a true story and also stars Gugu Mbatha-Raw (“Concussion,” “Beyond the Lights”), Keri Russell (“The Americans”), Mahershala Ali (“The Hunger Games: Mockingay Parts 1 and 2”), and Sean Bridgers (“Room,” “Trumbo”).

The trailer is action-packed and intense and McConaughey is sure to be able to carry the movie as he’s proven himself to be a fantastic actor. You can check out the trailer for the film below.

Directed by Gary Ross, “Free State of Jones” is set to hit theaters May 13, 2016.
